Hi,

In August had been published positions regarding a project funded by the
World Bank ICT to support the mapping of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The initial
goal is to work with Capital city authorities and university students to
map one pilot area in the city, before an eventual mapping of the entire
city in the future. By having a detailed basemap additional applications
will be built on top of OpenStreetMap for citizens to track things such as
services.
It was supposed to start in late August, but has actually been delayed, but
will finally start from next week until mid-November. I will lead this
field activity with Russell Deffner who has been selected for the Junior
Coordinator Position. Russell is highly experimented in Disaster and
Emergency Services as a former firefighter, a rewarded American Red Cross
volunteer in Mile High Region (CO), as well as in Spatial Information
Management Systems for ARC or private companies. He has also been training
different categories of people, from children to elders in emergency or IT
topics. Last but not least, Russell is an enthusiastic, huge contributor in
OSM and HOT remote activities.
Russel and I will keep you informed about how the project is running
through blog posts and twits, and we might also ask for some technical
advice and support.
Excited to be there - even if the expected temperature will be far from the
tropical standards I am used to for a few years!

Sincerely,

Severin
