Hi Robert,

I agree that it is better to do in person training for non-typical OSM users. 

But we can think of some at distance training support for the trainers if necessary. Andrew Buck, Will Skora and I have experienced last year supporting various local chapters in African countries. Andrew and I are pursuing in this direction discussing presently with humanitarians in Congo that also want to do some field data collection.

I dont know how others see this, but we could first try to build a common repository for material specific to data collection that would complete LearnOsm. The tradittional approach is to use GPS + Field Paper + Questionnaires. But new tools based on smarphones and tablets are emerging to complete the data collection workflow. If some training material is developped for this, and data collection experienced made, we should share these infos among the various groups.

The Red Cross may also be interested in some trainings in the Philippines. We’re pulling together our strategic plan for recovery right now and OSM trainings for Philippines Red Cross chapters are on there.
 
I think in person trainings are better for non-typical OSM users (i.e. non-nerds). I would be nervous about solely remote means of training.

We are looking to do such training with humanitarians in various areas. Andrew started a project with MSF in Democratic Republic of Congo where we will train field teams. 

Let's keep coordinated and assure we develop tools that can be reused elsewhere.
 
I suggest that we organize a meeting through Mumble with people interested by this subject to discuss and find ways to go on with these various trainings, adapted content to prepare, ways to train, including at distance.

Hi All,

I just wanted to mention if you see ways that HOT can help please let
us know. I think all of the ideas suggested so far have possibilities.

How would you all from the OSM-ph community feel about HOT hosting
some trainings? We typically haven't done much on the ground work in
the Philippines because the community is so strong. Currently we don't
have any firm plans to do such things (we would need funding to assist
us in travel and other costs), but it is a possibility. We of course
would inquire here first if any such thing happened.
