Hi Rafael,

Would be great to have stats about what is imported so that we can figure
out how many objects of each kind this represents.

Sincerely,

Severin

Hi all:

After the import of the boundaries of all wards, LGA's of 10 Northern
Nigeria states [1] and the LGA's of the rest of states of that country
[2], the import of the residential areas of 8 North Nigeria states [3]
and the import of 1,087 health facilities in Kano state [4] from the
eHealth Africa Foundation database, next in the queue is the import of
place nodes (villages, towns and suburbs/quarters in big towns and
cities) extracted from the residential areas polygons.

This import will be done, state by state, through specific jobs in the
Tasking Manager, in a similar way to the Health Facilities import.

For that purpose, we have created an import wiki [5] and a workflow
wiki [6] to show the steps that mappers will have to follow for this
import.

This import is a bit tricky, as we have to merge these eHealth Africa
data with the OSM database that is full of place nodes from the
controversial GNS 2009 import. So I would kindly ask the community to
review the import wiki and the workflow wiki for possible issues,
improvements, modifications and corrections.

To help you check the data, I uploaded the following three files to
ge.tt [7]:

1) eHealth_Africa_Places_KANO.osm (data to be imported - 2,084 nodes)
2) kanoTownsAndCitiesFINAL.osm (it's the residential areas data that
we imported into OSM, before merging it with the OSM database)
3) OSMdatabasePlaceNodesKano20140710.osm (for your convenience, this
are the places nodes we have in the OSM database (most of them from
the GNS 2009 import), so you don't have to download all Kano data and
filter)

Best,

Rafael Ávila Coya.
