Jorieke,

I made an announcement on IRC and got a few respondents already and I
will be mapping for the next several hours as well. It would be good
if you could hop on our mumble server before you go out tomorrow
morning to chat briefly about what your survey plan is, etc. This
will help us better know what to map, and I can try to share some tips
on what to look for as well.

Here is a link to instructions on how to set up mumble. We have
tested it over low bandwidth internet links in both Africa and Haiti
on both computers and on the Android/IOS version of the program and it
works quite well for voice communication. It also has the additional
advantage of being strongly encrypted from client to server which is a
nice feature to have in areas like the Congo or Central African
Republic where there is ongoing sporadic violence.

One question I had was regarding what printouts you are using, are you
printing the default mapnik style or the humanitarian style on your
field papers pages? Also, I am wondering if you have printers there
in DRC to print out updated versions as the week progresses? Finally,
I had heard you will be taking GPS traces to better align imagery,
etc. I expect the bing imagery will be pretty well aligned anyway but
the traces will be good as a secondary source to double check.

Looking forward to working with you over the next week to see how the
project progresses.
