Hello everyone,
The mapping in Guinea in response to the MSF request has been
fantastic so far. We have already mapped 2 of the three largest
cities in the area in less than 12 hours from recieving the imagery.
This is an amazing rate of progress, even for HOT. I don't recall
every mapping a large city in less than 12 hours for any HOT project
and we did 2 today.
Because the mapping has been going so well I have opened up 2 new jobs
on the task manager. Both of these towns have Bing imagery.
N'zérékoré is higher priority - http://tasks.hotosm.org/job/473
Kankan is lower priority - http://tasks.hotosm.org/job/472
Also, in addition to these two new towns it would be good to start
tracing landuse where we can around the affected towns. Having
landuse mapped allows for better disease model analysis so although it
was not the first thing we needed to map, we are now to the point
where it makes sense to start mapping this. I haven't created any
task manager jobs as for landuse it is better to just upload often and
update your local dataset periodically. Please try to map the
following features where you see them:
landuse=farmland
landuse=orchard (Keep on the lookout for these, groups of trees
arranged in a grid pattern.)
landuse=forest (for managed groups of trees)
natural=wood (for unmanaged, wild growth of trees)
Thank you everyone for all the mapping you have done so far, I am
looking forward to see the continuing progress over the next few days
as this activation continues.
