I'd like to add a welcoming spin to Kate's request:

Being a moderator is a simple task; but important as Kate noted. Anyone in
the HOT community will be able to do it. Just to repeat, the main job is to
be the human eye to detect if an incoming email is spam or not.

The current moderators are Mikel Maron, Kate Chapman, Harry Wood and Robert
Soden as can be seen from the bottom of
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/hot . They have all been involved
with HOT since the beginning. It would be good to let at least some of
these "seasoned mods" be relieved from this task, a good small piece for
some who'd be willing to pitch in a bit more for making things work in the
HOT community.
