Suggest you make a request via Mapbox and DigitalGlobe. https://www.mapbox.com/labs/request/  Unlike Bing, you can actually correspond with people at Mapbox and DG, who can provide imagery status, and have assurance imagery will not unexplainably disappear.

Looking at the area in this funny old bing analyzer tool would suggest the same. The area used to be hi-res and is not now hi-res, hence you can zoom in on some patches of green here, and they turn red.

Not much can be done about it, although I think we've seen this before with bing, and a degrading in coverage has occurred just before they do an update with much improved imagery. So fingers crossed that's what is happening.

Hi Ahasan,

When did you last see imagery in that area? It is my understanding from reading some of the other OSM community mailing lists that the recent Bing maps update has made high resolution imagery for certain areas no longer available.

It depends on the local usage of the data. For example in programs that us InaSAFE to measure the impact of a disaster the buildings are actually turned into points prior to the analysis.
People should map as accurately as they can, but if mapping buildings as points is the best you can do and works for how the data will be used then no problem. If someone else needs outlines they can always "upgrade" the mapping later.

The mapping of the shape and size of buildings for HOT is not for visual purposes.

Ivan Gayton of Medicin Sans Frontiers has reported back to us that this is important for their work in certain areas. They use the size of the building to assess the number of occupants (as in the case of round huts for example) or to assess it's use (small round huts are usually grain stores) and also the size and shape gives them reference points for establishing their exact position and orientation on the ground in relation to the map. In some areas we are asked to map the location of large trees and multi-story buildings as prominent reference points (as was the case in mapping the slum area in Dhaka) to establish position amongst the random sprawl of buildings and Pete Masters has reported back that this proved very useful when he was out there.
So, while some people may not have any significant use for the size and shape of the building there are others who will need that sort of data in both rural and urban areas.
