[HOT] Communications Outreach

Hi folks, I think that there needs to be a way to collate all the online
media about HOT. Right now this is the wiki. Perhaps the videos need to be
aggregated to a HOT video channel. But, perhaps the HOT Communications
working group or a few keen Hotties could further drive data collection.
Coordinating a video channel is easy on Youtube or Miro. It is about
tagging videos and building a strong playlist. (

HOT has been mentioned in many Ted talks. I can point to Patrick Meier's,
Erik Hersman, mine and I am sure many others. Getting a 'ted talk' is about
building those relationships and applying. I strongly encourage all of you
to seek your local TedX organizers.

Some examples of Stellar HOT talks:

Many ICCM Crisismappers talks. Last year Dale, Mikel and Kate spoke about
HOT. Kate introduced Missing Maps -

Kate Chapman at OSCON about OAM :

Kate Chapman at OSCON about Jakarta Floods

(OSCON is the largest OS conference with 5k people attending)

One of my all time favourites: John Crowley, Schuyler Erle and Jeffrey
Johnson at Where

Mikel has given countless talks too

The smaller TEDx (independently organized events) should be targeted with presentations, as they are probably easier to get into.

But, for now, the communication wg is more about helping us (HOT) drive the conversation, on that same wiki-page linked above (our main one) there are also slide-share and other material for anyone looking to build a TED talk type presentation – although I don’t think anyone has actually done an actual TED talk about HOT or even OSM for that matter. But at least Kate and myself in the working group have done presentations about HOT before, so we’d be happy to help folks prepare and/or look for opportunities although the wg priorities are first just setting up some basic groundwork for communication in general.
