So I think we can call this a success. In the end we had over 230
registrations. They kept coming in as we got on the national (Flemish)
radio in the earl morning. We mapped the entire planned task by somewhere
around noon (that's tasks 1776, 1777 and 1779).
And then we had time to just quickly finish the task we were originally
going to (1774).
In total, we had 201 different mappers completing tiles. We completed a
total of 1641 tiles. On our first task, almost 50% of tiles have been
validated already. We had both locally and off-site, and that really helped
to correct mappers early on. Also we used the chatroom to communicate
problems between locations, so we could do a quick shout-out about possible
problems.
Apart from the usual problems, we didn't have the time to solve the issue
with different alignment of aerial imagery between 1779 and the other two.
Because by the time we realized we had a real problem, the task was already
finished. What a problem to have.
The leaderboard failed us, so we couldn't have our funny little
inter-university competition, but I used an overpass query like this one
http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/fHe to download all the data we created. Turns
out we mapped around 23.000 buildings in Kivu and ANOTHER 25.000 buildings
in Swaziland.
One of our OSM event leaders already wrote in his diary about it:

And you can watch some clips from the national Flemish speaking television.
The main commercial station come to one event, the main public station to
another.
This clip worked in IE for me, not in Chrome. Relevant part starts at 23:17

This clip is entirely about us. The subtitle "onnauwkeurige kaarten" means
"inaccurate maps". Mind you, they mean the problem we're solving, not the
data we are creating.

Cheers to everyone who made this possible!
