 Dear HOT Community,

As many of us are looking forward to a relaxing weekend, unfortunately many
others will be evacuated from their homes, uncertain if it will still be
there when they are allowed to return. In many places, including here in
the U.S. not far from my own home, there are large wildfires. We know we
will not be able to have a meaningful response and impact in all of these
incidents. However, in the case of Algeria - the local community is trying
to do something, but they need our help. So, by their request, the
Activation Working Group and Disaster Services Team are Activating to
support the efforts of OSM Algeria to generate base data for the most
impacted areas in their country.

We also have great partnerships in the region and are looking for ways we
can collaborate on response and recovery efforts around the Mediterranean.
As this response is just getting launched, we ask that you stay tuned. We
are most responsive on the HOT Slack <http://slack.hotosm.org>
#disaster-mapping channel, or to the AWG and DST emails cc'd on this
message.

*How You Can Help!* - We have launched an Intermediate difficulty project
to map buildings near Toudja, Algeria. Beginners are welcome, just note
there are some dense areas and existing mapping; please select appropriate
tasks and leave the more difficult ones for advanced mappers. Find this
project and future projects in the campaign here
<https://tasks.hotosm.org/explore?campaign=Mediterranean%20Wildfires%202021>
.

Thank you for supporting HOT disaster services and the OSM communities in
the Mediterranean!

as mentioned above - join us on Slack #disaster-mapping; every week the
Activation Working Group meets there - anyone can join, you don't need an
