<div>Regarding the road classification in DRC,</div><div>the RGC follows (or at least tries to follow) the official directives and classifications established by the 3 road authorities*. Those ones are however not always very accurate for now, mainly because of the missing georeferenced data on road networks. Numbers given by national institutions can sometimes be found wrong on the ground (mainly because most was not recently updated). The RGC is training national institutions for improving their data.</div>

<div><br></div><div>Official classification does not seem neither to be directly transferable into OSM classification because of some kinds of "arbitrary" categories which couldn't be guessed by contributors.</div>

<div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Therefore, when there is no obvious contradiction with existing data, I think the best option for new objects would be, as already suggested, to follow the classification described for Mali (or, as Pierre said, for African countries).</div>
<div>
With more field data becoming available, we might be able to make necessary changes later.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Rafael,</div><div>If a road is a national one in DRC, it can still be a track which cannot even handle a car on some sections. Therefore, I don't think it is appropriate to call it "trunk". There are not many kilometers of motorway yet in the country, specially not in the Kivus. In my understanding, trunk and motorway tags involve a practicability aspect (and this should be checked from the field) while primary etc... are more "geographically" oriented.</div>

<div><br></div><div>Eric,</div><div>I think your suggestion (primary/secondary/tertiary) is quite ok, regarding the accuracy of the available knowledge. In the ratios comparison, we also need to take into account the fact that in those countries the road networks might not have been fully developed yet. And this can explain the lower quantity of tertiary roads, because of the low amount of vehicles used for the moment in those areas.</div>
<div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Within a month, we should be able to publish an update of RGC road data on our website. Then, we would love to get OSM contributors helping us to "fully" complete the geometry of DRC road network. I will keep you informed about this as soon as possible.</div>
<div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Claire</div><div><br></div><div>* The 3 roads authorities in DRC are the following:</div><div>- Office des Routes (OR): They take care of the prioritary road network: national and provincial roads mainly (RRIG);</div>

<div>- Direction des Voies de Desserte Agricole (DVDA): They take care of the tracks and roads of agricultural interest;</div><div>- Office des Voiries et Drainage (OVD): They manage all roads and gutter system within (officially classified) cities.</div>
