Sorry about the last message - my old smartphone is absolutly terrible.
I do believe that this import has the potential to grow the OSM community
in Durham. As far as I know, the most active members in Durham are Will
Bennett (rivermont on osm), me (LeifRasmussen on osm), and James Umbanhowar
(jumbanho on osm). Would it be possible for us to work on the import
together? I know that Will Bennett is currently in Michigan, so maybe we
should wait longer on the import and then get his opinion on the matter.
On a side note, Durham Open Data (the source for the addresses) has a
buildings dataset which I have imported a small amount of (about 1500
buildings). I am not currently importing any buildings. It might be
possible to merge the buildings and addresses and import them at the same
time. In ID, merging an address with a building is very easy - I just
select both and hit 'c'. If JOSM has a plugin like this, then merging the
addresses with buildings manually would be much easier. If merging the
data before upload is easier than doing it after, then I am open to having
it done before the upload. Personally, I think that merging addresses with
existing POIs and buildings is simpler to do after importing the addresses.
So, the plan for now is that I will
- Continue waiting on a reply from the Chatham County GIS department
before moving forward with the Chatham County Address Import
- Postpone this import (Durham County addresses) until more clear plans
for importing the data have been made
- Wait until the Durham County address / building imports are completely
finished before continuing on to importing the missing addresses in Wake
County.
I am not currently doing anything with Chatham County - just waiting for
their GIS department to reply to my email about the license their addresses
are licensed under. I have the feeling that they will never reply though,
so in that case, I will just send them more emails. :) For now, though, I
am focusing on Durham.
Thanks!
