The script you share is an 'older-duplicate' of the rulesTXT.zip file
that i maintain.

Just as Ian is the 'sole-developer' who compiles the library files
used to make the java shp-to-osm converter, only 1 person can be
incharge of this.

Because mistakes like 'natural=lake should be 'natural=water;
type=lake' needs to be manually fixed by ONE person.

I mentioned already that the rulesTXT.zip file that i maintain will
change administrators on nov 21st.

This is because i do not understand python script, and a new 'batch
conversion program will be made available.
Frank offered to be the one who maintains the batch file admin, and in
that, is the rulesTXT zip file.

Instead of sharing the TXT files, i share a googleDOCs spreadsheet
that lists what all the source fields & what OSM tags i used and the
name of the rules file that it is in.

I run the script for the different areas, and ask the team to take a
look at it, and submit any bugs they see.

fyi, the geobase2osm.py script took a few weeks to make, Steve Singer,
was the sole maintainer of the script.
Unlike geobase, canvec is 90 features, 378 types where geobase is 1
with 10 types.

So, once the script became 'suitable' it became available on the SVN.

The challenge with the SVN is that can only handle 1 version at a
time, and fix 1 bug at a time.

canvec-to-osm0_9_7_3 is designed to.
-download 256 tiles; unzip; designate folders; convert 90 features,
sort out 'extas', and zip ... if it was appopriate, it could upload to
the ftp site as well.

ps. If your source file is small (less than 100 subtypes) the
wikiChart suffices....
