Let me add The Netherlands to that category. Almost half has been 
switched over, while the other half will be done soon during the ongoing 
import of better municipal borders.

While an administrative boundary may technically be a line, as a concept 
it describes an area, the whole extent of which falls under some 
jurisdiction.

One of the side effects of switching to multipolygon, is that currently 
in mapnik, the boundary text labels are not showing for these. That's 
easy enough to fix, though.

Another (imho positive) side effect is that the stacked appearance of 
boundary lines is also gone. Effectively, it doesn't render the relation 
anymore, but only the actual ways, which have been and should be tagged 
as a boundary with the most important admin_level. Osmarender takes the 
same approach of only rendering the ways, iirc.
