With very long ways (for example rivers) i am using shp-to-osm which splits
it up, but visually (when its rendered) it looks like it all connected.
But for lakes, it's a large (+2,000 nodes) polygon with and 'inner' / outer
relation,... so its hard to split up from the source.
So having multiple adjacent closed-polygons, is the only way i see it.
kind of like making the north arctic sea, a big huge polygon.
