That's certainly a valid decision to take. It's a shame though!
The most important core of your idea was remove the poorly
double-tagged "water=lake;pond" tags that user "WorstFixer" added
blindly. That's quite a precise fix that would improve data quality
IMHO. I didn't see majority opposition to that. There was majority
opposition to your initial very broad proposal, but my perception was
that it had been refined to a point where it was not frightening many
horses any more...
