Hi, fellow mappers!

Our import project
is nearly ready for a start of the actual import by the community.

Hopefully is is lacking just your review. If something else is missing,
required, suggested, please say so as well.

Most of the preparation was done by a handful of us (user gvil,
coloredstone, Mark Martinec and me - StefanB), but wider community was
invited for involvement several times on forum and talk-si@ mailing list
during updates on the progress while getting some valuable feedback from

We prepared a website with overview of import:
It was initially used to inspect the data source, but it evolved from that,
so it will also be used to manually trigger (via JosmRemote) import of any
of 3640 squares of 2x3 km in size into JOSM (with requirement of OpenData
plugin) where importer will review it, and resolve any possible conflict
with existing data prior to upload.
The import functionality is hidden for the time being to prevent impatient
casual users from rushing things. Once the larger blank areas are filled
and if the need arises for smaller squares (for easier conflict resolution)
we will split the source along a smaller grid (squares of 1x1 km)

It is kindly hosted on German FOSSGIS servers, along with the tilemap of
the source that can be used as underlay in JOSM
Source code is available at

Some blank (or landuse-tag-free at least) areas were used for test import
of limited scale a few days ago:
Karst: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=15/45.4787/13.7335
Alps: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=15/46.4279/13.6791
Farmland: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/46.1345/15.5874

Some statistics from those imports can be gathered from taginfo:
There we even registeered our project:

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, they will be warmly

best regards,
