Dear readers of the imports mailing list,
Dear commenters,
last week, I had a little less time than I expected. My apologies for the delay in my answer. I will answer per topic:
Undocumented tags
A justified concern.
- I'll make sure to get those pages online (while following the procedures to do so) before starting accompanying sub-imports.
Discouraging data changes
To be honest: I didn't realise how bad such a note could be. I totally agree with your opinions though.
- I'll replace the message by something more informative, instead of this indicant message.
Coping with existing data
To be clear:
• I searched for this kind of data in the Netherlands using several JOSM xapi tag searches and identified some areas where some data has already been imported on minor scale (in the vicinity of Arnhem for example). These spots will be left out when importing
• I totally agree that object history should not be destroyed. Therefore I'll exclude objects that already exist from automated imports.
Future changes to the data
I think that this import could lay the foundation for a well-mapped network of Dutch railway signal locations for example. Allthough import data allways consists of a single moment in time, it does provide a certain basis which can allways be updated by mappers.
Contact with OpenRailwayMap
It has been silent for like six weeks now, between me and ORM. But I've received a new email from a different member of the ORM development team now. Probably some miscommunication, but I am confident that it will be solved from now on. I look forward to further contact with them.
Concluding: I declare my proposal immature in the meantime. As soon as the mentioned issues are solved, I'll send a new proposal. If you have any questions, advice or remarks, feel free to send them in the meantime. Thank you for commenting.
Kind regards,
Jeroen Wegdam
