I think it would be better to trace actual building outlines rather than generate generic placeholders from single nodes, better have fewer buildings but actually traced. Besides size there is also orientation and shape that matters for a good representation, as well as the relationship with surrounding buildings (attached or not, in line or not, etc.) neither of which can be captured with the procedure you describe. Imho you shouldn't do it.
