Feel free to import whatever you like, as long as it is quality and
relevant. I fully support it. We're here to make a quality map. We might as
well use quality data if it already exists.

I don't think their intentions are to make it an IT project. They want
to contribute to OpenStreetMap, just in a different way. Why are you on the
imports mailing list if you don't are not okay with imports?
