Thanks for the discussion comments link - never seen that before.
Not only has it started, over 1,000 square miles of the state has
already been imported.
The importer has already had at least one import reverted - RED FLAG:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/116167184#map=3/51.48/-115.34
The slack discussion of the reverted import shows a disregard for the
import process. Warnings about doing large mass imports without properly
following import guidelines, etc. And that was last month.

This needs to stop until further review / discussion and probably revert
what has been done so far. Way too much has already been imported to
stop a major mess from subsequent edits even in this rural area.
To be clear, I'm not necessarily against importing land cover / land use
data per se - see my original comment on this. You just have to follow
the proper guidelines and procedures that have been generally agreed
upon by many people involved in these processes over the past 10+ years.
Multi-polygon / polygon land cover / land use imports are probably one
of the most controversial type imports to begin with and need to be
handled with extra care.
Interested to hear feedback from others who have done land cover and/or
land use imports in the past, dealt with resulting issues, etc. As I
understand it, a land cover import in the state of Georgia as well as
New Jersey were a mess and have caused long running headaches.
