Hello Ed,
Andy from OSM's Data Working Group here. We've received a couple of
complaints about edits that appear to be related to this import. I am
assuming that https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/122632581 et al
are changes associated with this import, based on the source used in the
changeset.
Based on that, this work seems to have gone ahead without any attempt to
follow https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Organised_Editing_Guidelines
. Based on what I can read at
https://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussion-comments?uid=15976978 ,
the work performed so far doesn't seem to be of very poor quality in
that it appears to be based on out-of-date information and the people
performing the work appear to lack the necessary skills to even know
that they are not using up-to-date information.
First things first, please ensure that the "activity organiser" parts of
https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Organised_Editing_Guidelines are
followed (including creating a page linked to from
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Organised_Editing/Activities - I see
nothing at all mentioning "Sweco" there).
You must also include "the accounts of participating persons that wish
to be identified, with any details they wish to include". Each OSM
account used must update their profile to link to the activities that
they are involved in. To see examples of what other companies do see
the other entries at
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Organised_Editing/Activities - there
are lots of them.
A key part of
https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Organised_Editing_Guidelines is
"Communication with the community". This doesn't seem to have happened
in any meaningful sense - there has been no reply to the questions asked
of
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-gb-london/2022-June/000214.html
, for example.
I would suggest the thread that started at
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-gb/2022-May/thread.html#29024
is the best way to discuss with the rest of the community.
talk-gb-london is a pretty low-volume list and many people with a view
on this import will not be subscribed.
We (the DWG) will take advice from people familiar with the areas
affected to decide whether a revert of the data imported so far is the
best way forward, but separately to that you need to do the other things
that you have so far failed to do, and (it would appear from changeset
comments) upskill your staff somewhat so that they are more familiar
with editing OSM.
Best Regards,
Andy (https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/SomeoneElse).
