It is true that some wells are considered historic and dry, but their presence is important as a landmark, and the community can correct and review the deleted places.
And if the (fixme) tag was put on it, that would have been better than deleting it, especially since many of them are considered correct and realistic. I advise you to read this relevant page:

if the data is correct these are very useful, but if there are some non-existent wells in the data it is very bad, much worse than a missing well, especially in the desert.
I am not suggesting either way, just as a general consideration I would rather have a missing well than one that doesn’t exist
