Well, it's already in unstable and in testing and for etch you can get it from
the backports: http://packages.debian.org/sun-java6-jdk

Let me repeat this:  Current JOSM compiles and runs on all of java 5, java 6
and java 7.

It's just the default eclipse setup that doesn't work (at least it didn't last
time I checked -- I don't use eclipse.).
