Hmm I didn't even know about the middle-click :-) Anyway, I use a mouse 
with the clickable scroll bar in the middle and apparently the clicking 
the scroll bar doesn't make JOSM respond. Any chances of adding this 
functionality to a keyboard  (ALT modifier?) Or should I buy a new 
mouse? Just kidding :-)

How about a thicker line? Or a dotted line, if it is not used for other 
things in the basic JOSM. Or perhaps a standard line with a parallel 
line right next to it?
