Sounds like a good idea ( I miss the merge node facility in the now 
unworking utils plugin) as long as :

a) tags from both nodes also get merged
b) there is a facility not to merge nodes (maybe by holding down CTRL - 
similar to the effect with add node +CTRL) when a node is moved and 
"dropped".
