I'm getting something weirder. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what this
tool is supposed to do. I'm trying to use it to clean up the TIGER
data (all the railroad grade crossings at roads have duplicate nodes),
and it only appears to work. I select both nodes by drawing a box
around both (or by the "duplicate nodes" validator selection), click
merge nodes and the selection list changes to 1 node. So far, so good.
However, the ways are not linked at that point--if I move the
remaining (merged) node, only one of the pair of ways will move with
it. The other way is being drawn as if it still had its original node
(the direction arrowheads terminate at that point), but I can't click
on the old node (it selects the way instead), and drawing a box around
the junction does not select the old node. So, the node really seems
to be gone, but it didn't do what I wanted (join the ways where the
node was duplicated).
