[josm-dev] Feature suggestion "automatic update"

Java Webstart is a great idea in theory, but in practice, it is a real PITA. It doesn't work for all people on all systems (for no apparent reason), so you still need a secondary way of downloading/updating. 

After struggling with it for a over a year, another project I am working on is ditching it.

It's great when it works, for the people it works for, but the support overheads for the rest just isn't worth it.

Just my opinion.
