This is the second time I hear this.

Yes, that's high on my priority list, but I can't help myself from time to time
and let myself get distracted bu something less important.
And I am also a mapper myself, so whenever I return from a new destination,
I rather map than code ;-)

No. And it wouldn't make much sense under 0.6 OSM API....

... but why do you think it would add complexity, and why would you judge
superiority based on complexity?
