I guess this happens to be the reason for everybody else (excluding
Petr) as well.

Yes. Making life easier was the motivation for me to work on the
performance. For frequently used cases like moving a node this way
highly successful. I know the patch currently sits with Dirk as there
are cases when it produces repaint artifacts, but than can be fixed. The
want for a cleaner architecture was driven by this very piece of work.
