No need to do so. If you change anything there are two possibilites:

a) You add a new type - Will be displayed under the english name and thus 
force a new main menu entry. Not so nice, but no real problem and it BTW 
shows there are new entries :-)

If that becomes a real problem, then I would rather fix the code, so that 
the part before the slash is translated seperately.

b) Everything else does no distortion at all, but only the normal 
untranslated message.

And as long as I'm interested in OSM (and that's probably a long time, as 
geodesy is what I studied) I will update the lang-de plugin in short 
intervals.
