Is this the slippyMap plugin you are referring to? I am using Sun's JDK 
1.6.2 on Ubuntu, and the slippyMap plugin seems to show as a white 
background and nothing more. if I toggle the layer on and off the map 
looks the same except the background is white or black. Zooming in or 
out does not change anything.
