Takes around 5-10 seconds per tile here.
Did you update your WMS Plugin lately?
Make sure that you're using the new "Yahoo Sat" WMS entry pointing to 
"html:http://josm.openstreetmap.de/wmsplugin/YahooDirect.html?"
