[josm-dev] Walking Papers Plugin

Hi,

I have committed a new and rather experimental "walking papers" plugin.

For those who don't know what Walking Papers is (www.walking-papers.org,
don't forget the dash or you end up with some nutcases): A web site
where you can print out a map and, after scribbling on the printout,
scan it and upload it and have it delivered to you as slippy map tiles.

I used Lubomir Varga's Slippy Map plugin as a basis. I first wanted to
add functionality to the Slippy Map plugin but it turned out that what
Walking Papers needs is a bit different, mostly because for each Walking
Papers ID you will want a slippy map layer of its own.

When you load the plugin there is a new entry in the main menu, and by
clicking on that you can create a new Walking Papers layer. This
requires entering the Walking Papers ID, for example in

http://walking-papers.org/scan.php?id=bdtgnkvs

the ID would be "bdtgnkvs".

The plugin still has some weaknesses, most notably that it does not
properly detect the area for which Walking Papers has computed tiles, so
it will try and download tiles all the time if you zoom to another area
on the map. To find out where I have to zoom for displaying a specific
ID, I actually have to screen-scrape the URL above... I'll try and find
out if there is a better way. Potlatch seems to support it just fine.

I haven't yet committed the .jar file so I hope the plugin will not show
up in JOSM automatically - you'll have to build it yourself. If anyone
wants to make any improvements, you're more than welcome to do so ;-)

Bye
Frederik
