It's probably too late to help you with this, but...
When validator plays up like this, you may need to tell it to stop
validating on upload:
'Edit' menu -> 'Preferences...'
Go to validator settings (Big tick icon on the left)
Untick all of the tickboxes on the right (validation 'on upload')
Try uploading again.
Saving to a .osm file will also work and at the moment you are unlikely to
by left with compatibility problems between JOSM versions.
So once your data is safely saved, upgrade to josm-latest and then do a
plugin update. Still broken? Try downgrading to josm-tested (worked for me
recently. Not sure what someone had done to break the validator)
