OK. I never used this feature.

I'm currently working on the remotecontrol plugin to implement this.

My idea:
I will extend the remotecontrol plugin to have a table of handlers for various commands. (Initially it will support the same commands as it does now.)
Other plugins can implement a handler for a specific command and add this to the table using a function of the remotecontrol plugin.
The wmsplugin will add a remote control function that works similar to the "rectified image" menu entry.
