I think the most straight answer to all of those threads was given by
Dirk in the 2010 thread[0] . There seems to be some work on progress
on one of the points by Dirk, the point about having a git plugin [1]
[2] . On a side note, seems trac has slowed development quite a bit
[3] . All git users would do well to try out that proof of concept
plugin.
