I've just tried it in Ipswich in the UK, and all I get is a pattern of x's, so not yet.

According to http://mapbox.com/blog/digital-globe-partnership/ some time in the first half of 2013 the planet will have imagery to z17. A spot check at SFO in the US has the imagery to z17 appearing in the editors. Bing on the other hand will allow you to zoom into z21 in places.
