A bit late, but I implemented a patch that uses the SVN number as "release
version number" as suggested. There is a small problem which I don't think
is solvable, but it may not have any serious adverse effects. When the
"releaser" has the project checkout out on his machine and builds the
release files, they get stamped with the current SVN revision. When he
commits them to the archive, the current revision is increased. So the
release files will always be versioned with the previous revision of the
SVN archive.
