Offline OSM vector file plugin to edit in the field - OBF vector format or other

Wasn't POSM supposed to solve this problem? :-)

Sorry for digressing.

In any case JOSM can already render "raw" OSM data, so supporting one of
the rendering/routing data formats would seem to be unnecessary. You
really only need to be able to apply a map style that is similar to a
conventional map rendering to a read-only OSM data layer (currently I
believe the map styles are not per layer, so that would require sone
work) and you would already be set.

Simon

PS: for further ideas around offline editing in situations in which you
would want to pre-download the data

To navigate with OSM in JOSM should be as easier as smarthpone offline applications for people that need to work offline because of bad / expensive access to internet networks. My experience with smarthpones applications is that they are reliable, they provide fluidity. JOSM Caching is surely not as easy and reliable as these offline maps. And badly, moving in an area with no internet connection, you realize that your setups are not ok and you have no background imagery.
