Clustering of overlapping features

Hi,

This question originates from ticket #11189 ([1]): Is there a way or are 
there plans to support some kind of clustering of data in dense regions 
with overlapping features like photos on the map in JOSM? The idea is to 
display the number of overlapping features instead of the actual 
features or an other sign on low zoom levels to indicate that there is 
more data as what can be seen in the map view. This could be useful for 
different layers, not just the GEO image layer. The solution would need 
to support the case that multiple features have the same coordinates. A 
"feature" could be a photo (also from Mapillary, OpenStreetCam, ...), 
POI, node, note, GPX track-point or way-point, way/polygon, etc.
