Hi,

just as in previous years OSM will be applying for participation in
Googles Summer of Code. This is a programme that intends to introduce
developers to open source by providing paid time to work on a project
and at the same time support open source projects.

For this year some of the rules have changed: in particular the previous
hard requirement to be a student has been relaxed, however the person
should be new to open source, there are two different sizes of projects
175 hours and 350 hours and there is some more flexibility with respect
to timing.

You can find more information here
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/2022 .

We are looking both for project ideas (in the two size categories
mentioned above) and mentors. While volunteering to mentor a project
that you yourself have proposed is a good idea, we have had student
proposed projects in the past for which having a pool of potential
mentors to point to would have been helpful.

Project ideas can be added here
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Google_Summer_of_Code/2022/Project_ideas
, if you are interested in mentoring please send mail to
gsoc-orga at openstreetmap.org

Simon
