[Learnosm-coord] Updates to LearnOSM

Hi All,

I just wanted to post a few updates that are being worked on for LearnOSM,
so everyone is up-to-date.  Apologies for not writing this sooner, I'd
forgotten that we had this list.

*Recent Updates*
1)  First, a few months ago I worked on updating the beginner guide and
adding some new chapters to additional sections.  The intermediate and
advanced chapters are essentially obsolete now in the English version.  The
beginner guide was updated for some changes in various processes and with
(hopefully) some more clear organization.  Three new sections were added -
editing, osm data, and map design.  In the English version, links to these
sections can be found beneath the beginner guide menu on the post pages:

2)  Organization.  There was lots of talk on the GitHub issues tracker
about how best to organize the files.  We more or less agreed on the
following.  First, instead of intermediate and advanced sections, new
sections will be organized topically, hence a section on editing, osm data,
and map design.  There are also plans for sections such as surveying and
coordination.  This new editing section contains more tutorials on JOSM and
a chapter on the iD editor.  Any tutorials belonging to the editing
process, be it JOSM, iD, or Potlatch2, belong here.  Another organizational
change is with the images.  For translation reasons, it has become clear
that there must be a separate image directory for each language.  Hence we
are migrating to a structure where the images/ directory has subdirectories
for en/, fr/, jp/ and so on.  This will involve a duplication of many
images, but it is important to make sense of the translations.  It can be
difficult to make updates to the the English version when all the languages
are referring to its images.

*Current Work*
There are two main tasks that I am trying to organize at present:

1)  Translation updates.  Basically, all of the translations need to be
updated to reflect updates in the English version.  Also there is a series
of new chapters to be translated.  Right now we have translation teams
organized for Japanese, Italian, German, Spanish, and (new) Croatian.  I
hope we'll be able to find translators to update Indonesian and Portuguese
soon.  French will need to be reworked as well, as it has been translated
to match the old version of the documents.  If anyone is intending to do
translations, please coordinate with me beforehand.

2)  Design changes.  Chiefly, the home page needs to be changed.  Right now
both the "More Guides" and "Organizing a Workshop?" buttons link to a wiki
listing old chapters.  These links need to be changed somehow and/or
redesigned.  I'm not much of a design person so I don't know how best to do
this.  If anyone has ideas for how to rework the homepage, please share
them.
