Hello to the legal list,
I have proposed a panel discussion session for the SOTM conference:
"At the heart of the OpenStreetMap project is a vast amount of data,
largely contributed, editied and maintained by OSM users. The current
OSM license ensures that anyone can use and edit the data in any way
they want. They must however, release any modifications they make
under the same license, ensuring that the community benifits from
improvements to the dataset, but potentially reducing incentives for
commercial uses of OSM data. This panel discussion will introduce the
different range of opionions before opening up the discussion to the
floor."
We'd like to get together a panel of maybe 4 or 5 people with
differing opinions on the OSM license. Each panel member would have 5
minutes to put forward their argumets, and then the whole thing would
be thrown open to the floor.
So, any volunteers from this list? If you are interested, sign up to
the conference management system at:
http://submissions.stateofthemap.org/submission/SOTM2007
Then drop me an email, to registration at stateofthemap.org saying that
you're interested in participating in the License Panel discussion.
Ideally we'll get 3 OSMers with different views and two "outsiders"
with different views on things, and then have a good debate about the
nitty gritty.
Cheers,
