Anybody that reads the MythTV lists will know that the Australian TV
networks take an exceedingly vigorous approach to defending their
rights over their TV schedules... Not to mention a very odd approach
to timekeeping by all accounts.

If you read the final paragraph then it seems that the ruling was that
shows from the middle of a TV series (which had entered the public
domain) were derivative of earlier shows in the series which had not
entered the public domain.

Presumably the theory is that because the shows had the same
characters and things there was derivation involved, but is seems
quite a stretch really.
