I think it is not anyone's intention to shift focus from the actual 
topics that matter to methodological details.  But since decisions 
about tools are being made it is important to bring forward arguments 
that are relevant for these decisions.

And many people in the OSM community are passionate about using open 
tools and about being open and inclusive in terms of means of 
communication.  So this in a way is as much about content as anything 
else.  In particular since coordination between local communities is 
all about communication and connecting different cultures of 
cooperation and communication.  How to best work together is pretty 
much inevitably a central topic of this mailing list.

But i agree we should not get lost in methodological questions.  So i 
would say use whatever means you see fit to work on things but (a) take 
into account the preferences and arguments brought forward by others 
and (b) make sure you communicate about your progress here to include 
those who might not be comfortable with your choice of platform and 
most importantly (c) do not assume anywhere (including here) that the 
spectrum of opinions voiced is representative for the whole community.
