[Mapcss] Zoom levels: bad idea?

True.
However, what is done with a bitmap generated from a MapCSS stylesheet is
out of scope of MapCSS, IMHO.
The PNG should still has a DPI and the device on which it will be used, too.
It is then up to the program doing the interface to handle the DPI
differences...
