[Mapcss] stacked shields

Hi,

There is a user who likes to do some advanced hiking trail rendering
[1]. Basically, you can have an arbitrary number of route relations for
a single way and each should be represented on the map by a coloured
line, label and/or symbol.

There is also a US version of this problem, as illustrated by a map [2]
from a SotM talk [3] by Richard Weait.

Somewhat related is the following feature I've seen in Osmarender: A
footpath crosses a secondary highway and the node is tagged
crossing=zebra. This should be rendered as a zebra pattern on the map
and it shouldn't just point in any direction, but must be parallel to
the secondary road.

Any ideas how this could be tackled with MapCSS?
