True. But nearly all developers I know continue using trunk, so the effect 
to have bug-fixes for the release branch does not work at all. Whereas on 
the other hand:

- make a break allows to get a higher quality release
- keeping local changes for some time is not very bad for minor changes.
- for major changes a developer can make an own branch and merge that one
   after release.

The problem here is, that branching early and getting a stable release 
branch sound good, but wont work, as usually most developer don't care for 
the release branch :-)

Its mainly a decision what should be easier: Developing/Fixing for release 
version or implementing new features. In these two weeks the focus is 
shifted to release.

And BTW also some break time helps to clear you mind about HOW to 
implement certain new features floating around in your head :-) And 
inbetween you can fix bugs.
