[Merkaartor] V1.3rc3 (win) constantly crashing

Hi, everyone!

I had to do a lot of changes to the Innsbruck area (mosty removing
ways and notes that were imported from plan.at but proved to be less
than useful).
I took this as a test for the new merkaartor build, but unfortunately
the results are sobering.

Lots of fatal crashes:
MTF (mean time to failure) 10-15 minutes
Although the crashing module is usually the UI, I have the impression
it might have something to do with the yahoo layer, especially at
higher zoom levels. You can expect a crash soon after the programs
calculates that there is only one ore two tiles to load, where in fact
there are much more needed.

Upload problems:
frequent 'prerequisity failed' and 'Gone' errors
The cancel button on the upload progress dialog doesn't work once the
transfer has begun, so you have to acknowledge each and every error.
If the transfer cannot be cancelled, then please log all errors, but do
only show the error list at the end of the transfer.

Annoying: Nodes that got a 'Gone' error stay in the dirty layer

Also have I the impression that nodes with prerequisity errors don't
stay in the dirty layer, although they were not deleted from OSM: when
I reload the data freshly from OSM (e.g. after a crash), some nodes I
have already deleted are back again.

Translation:
- On startup, I get a warning that QT-translations could not be loaded.
The warning is in german, and so is the rest or the UI. Huh???
- I hate translated tags, but the setting in the setup dialog
doesn't seem to work. I would like a german UI, but english tags.

BTW: Dirk, there is no such thing as a 'Kreisstraße' (tertiary) in
Austria and I fear it might be taken as 'Kreisverkehr" (roundabout).
How about "regionale Verbindungsstraße"?

UI:
- toolbar is too wide for 1280x1024 (in german only due to longer
labels), this would not be a problem if it was user configurable
- The dropdown in Properties (above Amenity) is barely readable because
of too small fontsize.

A suggestion: wouldn't it make sense to bind the red dots (non downloaded
area) to the download layer? This way they can easily be turned of by
disabling the download layer. Sometime I search for some location
using the yahoo images, in this case the red dots are useless but
hindering.

Another question: I tried to import ESRI shapes, but got a non
informative answer that they couldn't be loaded. What kind of shape
and which projection is required for the import?
